Reserves Policies and Information

Course Reserves is a temporary collection of books, journal articles, sample examinations and other print and electronic materials set aside at a professor's request for the non-commercial and educational use by students. Reserved materials are intended to supplement, not replace, course texts purchased by students.

There are two ways to find materials that have been placed on reserve.  Come to the library's circulation desk, or access the information by clicking on the link to Course Reserve in the online catalog.

  • A valid Rowan ID card is necessary to retrieve print reserve materials for in-library use.
  • A valid Rowan network username and password are necessary to access the full-text of electronic reserves.

If you are in the Library:

Please refer to the white Reserve Materials binders on the circulation desk.  The binders are arranged alphabetically by the instructor's last name.  Locate the page for your instructor and class.  Readings are listed alphabetically by title.  Please provide the library staff member with the call number or folder number you need.

One item may be used at a time.

Reserve items can be used in the library for 4 hours although occasionally an instructor will request an overnight loan period. The fine for overdue reserve material is $5.00 per day.

Using the online catalog:

If you are in the new catalog, click on the link for Course Reserves.

If you are in the traditional catalog, click on the index tab for Course Reserve.

Using the drop-down arrow to the right of the search box, choose to search by your instructor's name, AND/OR the Department with which the class is affiliated, AND/OR the course name. Once you've made your selection(s), click the search button. A list of the items on reserve for that instructor or class will appear.  Click on the title of the item you want.

If the item is in print format only, come to the library's circulation desk and provide the staff with the call number or folder number of the item.

For E-Resources click the link for the desired title and then for the folder. You will be asked for your Rowan network username and password.  The full-text of the item will appear.  Adobe Acrobat software is required to view the materials.  Once the text appears, you will have the option to download, print or email it.
