Library Services

Resource Sharing

Resource Sharing works to obtain, when possible, items such as books, journal articles, documents, and audio-visual materials not available in the Rowan University Library Services collection. The items are borrowed from other libraries both in the United States and countries throughout the world. Stipulations of this service are set by the Interlibrary Loan Code of the American Library Association, and by the regulations of the individual lending libraries. All guidelines reflect these conditions and encourage cooperation for proficient service. There are times when purchase of items may be necessary from commercial suppliers.

Requests and Pick-Up Policy

Requests should be limited to 10 items per person, per week. For journal articles, allow a few days, or as many as seven for processing. Select articles may take longer to process. For books, we encourage the use of EZ Borrow.  The turn-around time is two days.  If the book cannot be obtained through EZ Borrow, then ILLiad may be used. Allow one to two weeks for delivery, depending on the lending library. Always allow enough time to obtain the item(s) needed.

Requests for items available within Rowan’s collections will not be processed; requests for articles available in full-text within any of our databases will also be denied. If you are unsure as to whether or not your items are currently available, please check the online catalog before submitting a request. Articles obtained electronically will be delivered to your Rowan email account only. ILLiad will notify you when items are available for downloading. Books maybe picked up at the Campbell Library circulation desk. Renew books prior to the due date through your ILLiad account. Fines will be assessed if a renewal request is not made during the allotted time; borrowing privileges may be revoked.

Completing the Online Request Form

An ILLiad registration form must be completed the first time you use ILLiad. Once submitted, your personal information will be saved, and all subsequent request forms will be pre-populated. Please complete a new request form for each item. Search “Books in Print, Global” to locate an item’s ISBN if it is not cited; search “Ulrichsweb Global Serials Directory” to find a journal’s ISSN if the desired article does not cite one. Books published before 1970 will not have an ISBN. In either case, if the identifying item number cannot be found, type “unknown” in the space.

Remember: requests will not be honored if Rowan owns the item, or if we have electronic access to the material.

Using and Replacing Borrowed Items

Lending libraries determine loan periods and any restrictions on use of their borrowed materials. Please take note of due dates on book straps, and return all forms with your borrowed materials. Request renewals before due dates, as renewals of loaned items are strictly at the discretion of lending libraries. Disregard of due dates may result in suspension of interlibrary borrowing privileges, borrowing privileges at Rowan University’s libraries, and a bill for the replacement of each item. Do not use campus.
