Commonly Asked Questions

Who may borrow materials through Resource Sharing?

Those eligible to place an ILL request from Rowan's Library Services are:

  • Current faculty and staff
  • Currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students

What may be borrowed?

  • Items not owned by the library, either print or electronic format
  • Items declared missing from the collection

What may NOT be borrowed?

Most libraries will NOT lend the following materials:

  • Basic reference material
  • Rare, valuable material, or irreplaceable materials, including original manuscripts
  • Bulky or fragile items that are difficult/expensive to ship
  • Material in high demand at the lending library
  • Material with local circulation restrictions
  • U.S. books published within the present calendar year
  • Audio tapes, maps, software/MRD, CD ROM, and sound recordings

When will I receive my requested items?

Place requests early, as it may take up to two weeks for books to arrive. Journal articles often arrive within a few days, but Resource Sharing will not guarantee delivery dates.

How am I notified?

An email will be sent to your Rowan account with a link to the electronic item, or with a notification that your item is available for pick up. Items may be picked up at the Campbell Library circulation desk. Please pick up items within three to five days of notification. Call Resource Sharing at 856-256-4803 or email rowanill@rowan.edu if you do not receive notification within two weeks of placing your request.

Can I borrow doctoral dissertations?

Dissertations are owned by the libraries, where they are produced and may not be considered lendable materials. For free downloads of dissertations produced in 1997 and later, go to Digital Dissertations and Theses. This database also provides pricing and information for purchasing paper, microfilm or microfiche copies of dissertations written prior to 1997.
