The Library has been keeping careful track of physical Library use on weekends over the past 5 weeks, and we know that many students on weekends have a choice to study in other locations in the Academic Center, including the new Diversity Lounge. We also know that unique library materials such as anatomical models, high demand print texts, and other things are hardly used.
During the current surge of COVID-19 cases, it is easy to justify not coming to the library if you are concerned about shared, closed spaces. The Library continues to have decent weekday usage.
Starting Sunday, December 13th, the SOM Library will be open 12:00noon to 7:00pm until further notice.
Starting Saturday, December 19th, the Library will be closed on Saturdays until further notice.
We will have a discussion with student and faculty leaders about re-opening on Saturdays as we get closer to final exams starting in April, but the reality is that before recent Monday exams, the Library was only used by a handful of students on Saturdays and nearly empty after 7pm Sunday.
There is no change in the 8:00am to 9:00pm hours Monday-Thursday, and 9:00am to 5:00 Fridays continuing for the foreseeable future.
Continue to check the RowanSOM Library website for any updates and change to operating hours.
