Our Resource Sharing department works to obtain materials such as books, journal articles, documents, and audio-visual materials that are unavailable using Rowan University’s libraries. These materials may be requested from other libraries.
Conditions of Interlibrary Loan services are determined by the Interlibrary Loan Code of the American Library Association. The lending libraries determine loan periods and restrictions on borrowed materials. In few cases, purchase of materials may be required from commercial suppliers.
Requests and Pick-Up Policy
Interlibrary Loan [ILL] requests are limited to 10 items per person, per week. Allow up to 14 days from date of request for processing. Requests for items available within Rowan’s collections will not be processed; requests for articles available in full-text using any of our databases will also be denied. If you are unsure as to whether or not your materials are currently available, please check our online catalog or ask a librarian.
For books, we encourage the use of E-ZBorrow. To request articles, book chapters, and other materials, please use the ILLiad online request system.
Loaned materials must be picked up at the Campbell Library circulation desk within five days of being received. If an extension or renewal is necessary, the Resource Sharing department must be notified (856-256-4803), or fines will be issued.
Completing the Online Request Form
You will complete an ILLiad registration form the first time you use our ILL service. Once submitted, your personal information will be filed and pre-populated for all subsequent request forms. Please complete a new request form for each item.
Search “Books in Print, Global” to locate an item’s ISBN if it is not cited; search “Ulrich’s International Periodicals” to find a journal’s ISSN if the desired article does not cite one. Books published before 1970 will not have an ISBN. In either case, if the identifying item number cannot be found, type “unknown” in the space.
Remember: requests will not be honored if Rowan owns the item, or if we have electronic access to the material.
Using and Replacing Borrowed Materials
Lending libraries determine loan periods and any restrictions on use of their borrowed materials. Please note due dates on book straps, and return all forms with your borrowed materials. Request renewals before due dates, as renewals of loaned materials are strictly at the discretion of lending libraries. Disregard of due dates may result in suspension of interlibrary borrowing privileges, borrowing privileges at Rowan University’s libraries, and/or a bill for the replacement of each item. Do not use campus mail or library book drops to return interlibrary loan materials. Photocopied or printed journal articles do not need to be returned.
