Campbell Library will host a free, five-part reading and discussion series called Let’s Talk About It: Muslim Journeys. Campbell Library is one out of 125 libraries and state humanities councils across the country selected to participate in the project, which seeks to familiarize public audiences in the United States with the people, places, history, faith and cultures of Muslims in the United States and around the world. Funding for this series is provided by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities [NEH] and the American Library Association [ALA].
“We are delighted to have been chosen to host this unique series that will allow patrons a chance to discuss some important themes in Muslim history and literature with the help of a well-qualified scholar [Jeffery Arsenault of University of Pennsylvania],” said Bruce Whitham, Campbell Library’s liaison to the subject areas of history, philosophy, and religion.
The first program will explore When Asia was the World: Traveling Merchants, Scholars, Warriors, and Monks Who Created the “Riches of the East” by Stewart Gordon and will be held on Thursday, September 19 at 3 p.m. All programs will be held on the sixth floor of Campbell Library in the President’s Conference Room.
Four additional books will be discussed on the following dates:

- The Ornament of the World Thursday, October 31, 2013
- Leo Africanus Thursday, November 14, 2013
- In an Antique Land Thursday, December 5, 2013
